Kennedy Chinedu Okafor is a UK Senior Research Scientist and a Senior Member of IEEE, USA, with two decades of R&D experience spanning Advanced Computing Systems and Cyber-Physical Systems. Kennedy holds a Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering and received the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Award as the overall best graduating Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2017. Kennedy’s began as a pupil R&D Engineer at the Electronic Development Institute (formerly the Centre for Adaptation of Technology-CAT) under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI-FMST) in Nigeria in 2008. As a Senior Engineer between 2012 to 2014, he made significant contributions to Embedded Systems and FPGA technologies. Kennedy holds multiple vendor certifications, including AWS Solutions Architect, DevOps Professional, Azure, IEEE Big Data Analytics®, IEEE Cyber Security®, IEEE Green IT®, Cloud Governance (CCE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP®), CompTIA A+®, and CompTIA Server+®. Kennedy initially held postdoctoral positions focusing on Driverless Cars and Networked Robotics at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and Imperial College London before joining Manchester Metropolitan University, England, and the University of Chichester as a Visiting Research Fellow. He has also served as Visiting Faculty at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, since 2021. While in Nigeria, Kennedy facilitated collaboration between National Instruments, Texas, USA, and FUTO, supporting the establishment of the FUTO Mechatronics Lab with certification, training, and equipment. Kennedy has organized over 50 IEEE conferences globally and has served as a keynote speaker at IEEE conferences in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe since 2019. Kennedy serves on the review editorial boards of multiple high-impact IEEE Transactions, including Cybernetics, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Green Communications and Networking, Computational Social Systems, Industrial Informatics, the Internet of Things, Access, and Cloud Computing among others. Kennedy has authored or co-authored over 150 articles, with more than 1,000 citations and an h-index of 26. Kennedy has reviewed over 400 papers and delivered more than 70 invited talks, including keynotes, tutorials, and seminars. He has supervised over 300 students in the fields of Digital Electronics, Robotics, and Computer Engineering. Kennedy has secured approximately $2.16 million in research and project grants, and has led numerous IEEE, government, and university projects. In 2023, Kennedy contributed to UK Natural Capital Asset services valued at £1.8 trillion and was involved in the UK Woodland project in 2024, valued at £382 billion. Currently, he serves as Chair of IEEE Skillup Hub, UK; Pioneer Chair of IEEE Consultants Networks AG, Nigeria; Pioneer Subsection Chair of IEEE South-East Nigeria; and Project Manager of CISCO Academy, Nigeria. He is also a UK Technology Advisor specialising in hyperscale digital market regulation.
