She obtained her PhD in 2017 from the same department and ‎University with specialisation in the synthesis of nanostructured materials for applications in ‎photovoltaics and electrochemical energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors) as well as for ‎gas sensing. Dr Nwanya was the best PhD student of the Faculty of Physical ‎Sciences,2016/2017 academic session and received the 2nd Prize of the Vice Chancellor’s ‎Postgraduate Prize in the same academic session.‎ Before joining the university, Dr Nwanya was a Research Fellow with the National Centre for ‎Energy Research and Development (2008-2016). She was a Postdoctoral Fellow under the ‎UNESCO-University of South Africa (UNISA) Africa Chair in Nanoscience and ‎Nanotechnology (2018-2020). She is a research Affiliate with the SensorLab, University of ‎the Western Cape Sensor Laboratories, Cape Town, South Africa. ‎ She has successfully co-supervised three masters students with Prof Iwuoha of the University ‎of the Western Cape, South Africa, and currently has more than 5 Masters students under her ‎supervision. She mentors and guides students especially in their research, even those not ‎officially assigned to her.‎ Dr. Nwanya is a Future Leaders African Independent Research (FLAIR) Scholar.
