ACE-SPED Drives TEA-LP Project in UNN

The Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Power, Energy and Development (ACE-SPED) has commenced the implementation of the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) project at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The TEA-LP project is an offshoot of a collaboration between the University of Nigeria and the University of Cape Town in South Africa, which brought the University of Nigeria into a partnership of African, South Asian and Indo-Pacific universities and other stakeholders.

The consortium, at the university level, aims to provide local graduates with the high-level knowledge, skills and competencies to contribute effectively to the sustainable delivery of clean energy access in the partnering regions.

TEA-LP project supports the development of multidisciplinary postgraduate academic curricula at African higher education institutions to bridge the skills gap in Africa's rapidly growing energy access sector.

The project at the University of Nigeria focuses on Renewable and New Energy Systems (RNES).

The Deputy Director of ACE-SPED, Professor Cosmas Anyanwu said that the project will facilitate the incorporation of two new courses in the area of Renewable and New Energy Systems (RNES) at the Centre.

He said that the project would also enhance the training of 18 young Africans on energy access and mini-grid development. The 18 beneficiaries will be trained in two batches; each batch is expected to comprise 9 Master's degree students.

"We have already enrolled eleven of our students into the first batch of the programme, the number is higher than our target because of the high demand for the training.", Prof Anyanwu said.
